Alternate Side Parking - CameraBag Editon
I’m very happy to say that I worked every day the past 5 weeks AND managed to juggle alternate side parking without getting any tickets, and only parking my car in a lot 3 times during the production. And that lot was only $8 for the day. God I’m awesome.
Today to pass the time while waiting in my car I played with my iphone camera again, and the Camera Bag app. It’s $1.99, and comes with over a dozen different options for effects to add to photos taken with your iPhone.
Unlike the Hipstamatic app, Camera Bag allows you to use photos from your library, and you can preview the different effects before saving them back into your library as a separate file. This gives it a huge advantage over the Hipstamatic, in my opinion, which only applies effects to images immediately after you shoot it without a preview of what the final result will look like. Not only that, but with CameraBag, after saving an image back to your library, so can open it back up and apply another affect on top of what you just did, opening up a new range of options. You can even take images you shot with the Hipstamatic and add effects to those.
The names of the filters are a little more straightforward than Hipstamatic’s fun though completely unhelpful lens names. If you have a basic knowledge of photo terminology you can get the idea of what each filter does. Here are a few of the filter options:
- Helga - crops square, adds a vignette and overall contrast to the image
- Mono - converts to black and white and adds a white border
- Infrared - actually more of a solarized look than infrared.
- Silver - converts to black and white and split tones the image, shadows going blue and highlights going yellow
- Instant - desaturates color and adds a slight vignette along with a faux-poloroid border
- 1974 - desaturates color and warms slightly, crops and adds a white border
It’s a fun app to have. If you’re a little tired of the Hipstamatic this is a good app to have and play with.
